PA Refuses to Close UNRWA Schools in Jerusalem

The Palestinian Authority rejected the decision of Israel’s National Security Council to revoke permits allowing UNRWA schools in Jerusalem to operate starting next school year. Officials considered it a further step in the process of Judaizing the city and violating refugee rights.
PLO Executive Committee member Hanan Ashrawi said the Israeli government’s provocative decision targeting Palestinian refugees in Jerusalem, including closing down and appropriating UNRWA institutions, is an affront to international law and international humanitarian law as well as the will of the international community as expressed in United Nations resolutions.
