US is now actively dismantling the Palestinian cause

It is not difficult to understand the US administration’s decision last week to block $200 million in aid to the Palestinian Authority (PA) when one looks at the move as yet another piece in a master plan that is becoming clearer every day. Yes it is meant to put pressure on President Mahmoud Abbas and his financially strapped PA, and can only be seen as an attempt at cheap political blackmail, as prominent Palestinian figure Hanan Ashrawi described it. This is despite opposition to the move by top USAID and security officials, US President Donald Trump’s chief adviser on the Middle East, Jared Kushner.
 
The money was meant to finance development projects in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. It comes in the wake of a series of US moves aimed at defunding the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) following last year’s unilateral decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and last May’s opening of the US embassy there. Now there are reports that the next step would be to redefine the right of return for Palestinians, in a bid to eliminate it entirely.
