A recent report has highlighted Israel’s heavy-handed crackdown on Palestinians, with a record number of 527 Palestinians being detained by Israeli forces in November alone. According to the report released by the Palestinian prisoners’ society’s center authority of detainees and ex-detainees affairs on Saturday, 120 of those detained were children. The report noted the highest rate of arrests had taken place in East Jerusalem al-Quds. It also showed that around 7,000 Palestinians are currently being held in Israeli prisons, 700 of whom in administrative detention.
Under the so-called administrative detention, Israel jails Palestinians without trial or charge for periods of up to six months which can be renewed an infinite number of times. Some Palestinian prisoners have been held in administrative detention for up to 11 years.
