Palestine Update 486
It’s all about genocide and the gear that employs to strangle Palestinians with
The only bit of positive news for this edition of Palestine Updates is that noteworthy numbers of young US Jews view Israel as “an apartheid state that commits genocide”. Israel is simply unable to make a dent in its campaign to link any censure of its persecution of Palestinian people with anti-Jewish bias. A report from Electronic Intifada notes: “A quarter of Jewish American voters agree that Israel is an apartheid state – a number that shoots up to 38 percent among those under age 40”. That is by far good news because if the numbers continue to rise, it could well pressure politics and US behaviour at the United Nations. This may be over-optimism but internationally we must live in steadfast hope (sumud).
Elsewhere, much to the chagrin of the western world, Iran has applauded the resistance movements in Palestine. While much of the international community cuts deals in the form of economic diplomacy, Iran won’t budge on its support to the Palestinian struggle and to the armed struggle.
And why not, Israel hounds the Palestinians in any political space they can find. Think about this: Palestinian digital rights organization, has documented 111 violations against Palestinian content by international social media platforms during July 2021. It’s hard to understand which civilized country’s army would actually execute four Palestinians, including two children, and wound 1,090 others, including 141 children, in just a span 20 days (United Nations (UN) report).
A Haaretz report describes this thus: “They come from different branches of the army with different backgrounds, but they share the incredible ease with which they kill, whether they have to or not. They kill because they can. They kill because they’re convinced that this is how they’re expected to act. They kill because they know that nothing is cheaper than the life of a Palestinian. They kill because they know that the Israeli media will yawn and not report a thing. They kill because they know that no harm will come to them, so why not? Why not kill a Palestinian when possible?”
The entire political-judicial system in Israel seems to have gone bizarre. In the Sheikh Jarrah case Israel’s Supreme Court today offered Palestinian residents of the occupied Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood ‘protected residence’ status’. Pray what does that mean?! Palestinians are now ordered to pay rent (for land they have dwelled on my all these years) to the settlers who assert ownership of the land. The Palestinians must pay a rent in return for an assurance that their properties will not be torn down.
A third of young US Jews see Israel as genocidal, poll finds
Significant numbers of Jewish Americans view Israel as an apartheid state that commits genocide, according to a recent survey. Efforts by Israel and its lobby to equate criticism of Israeli crimes against the Palestinian people with anti-Jewish bigotry are in overdrive. Yet a new poll indicates that this campaign has failed even with the vast majority of Jewish American voters. A survey commissioned by the Jewish Electorate Institute, a group led by supporters of the Democratic Party, contains several eye-catching findings. A quarter of Jewish American voters agree that Israel is an apartheid state – a number that shoots up to 38 percent among those under age 40.
Twenty-two percent of Jewish voters overall agree that Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians, a figure that rises to an astonishing 33 percent among the younger group. Moreover, Israel’s treatment of Palestinians is similar to racism in the US, according to 34 percent of Jewish voters surveyed. That figure exceeds two in five among those aged under 40.These findings are likely to dismay lobby group leaders who have long fretted about the erosion of support for Israel among Jewish Americans, particularly younger ones. What’s also striking is that even Jews who disagreed that Israel commits apartheid and genocide often do not consider such statements to be anti-Semitic. For example, 62 percent of those surveyed disagreed that Israel is committing genocide, but only half of those considered such a statement to be “anti-Semitic.”
Iran, real support of Resistance groups in Palestine
The Secretary-General of the Islamic Jihad Resistance Movement in Palestine Ziyad al-Nakhalah said that Islamic Republic of Iran is the real support of the Resistance movement groups in Palestine. Speaking in an interview with Al-Mayadeen TV Network on Sunday, Ziyad al-Nakhalah termed Islamic Republic of Iran as real support of the Resistance groups in Palestine. Stating that Iran’s support for the Palestinian people is not limited to the military and financial dimensions, he said that Islamic Republic of Iran attaches special respect to the leaders of the Resistance groups.
Elsewhere in his remarks, he pointed to the swearing-in ceremony of Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi as new president of the Islamic Republic of Iran and stated that Iran’s invitation of leaders of the Palestinian Resistance groups to attend the inauguration ceremony of President Raeisi is a sign of respect that leaders of the Resistance groups. The Secretary-General of Palestinian Islamic Jihad Resistance Movement emphasized that interaction with the Palestinian people and political approval of the Resistance movement is the difference between Iran and other countries. This is while in other countries, there is no one to help the Palestinian people, he added.
111 violations against Palestinian digital content in July
Sada Social Center, a Palestinian digital rights organization, said in a statement today it has documented 111 violations against Palestinian content by international social media platforms during July 2021. The Sada Social Center team documented more than 111 violations during July: 50 violations by Twitter, another 50 by Facebook and an additional 11 violations by Instagram.
These violations, according to the center, varied between complete ban and suspension of some features, complete closure of accounts and pages, and the restriction of publications and lowering reach levels. The social media platforms deleted publications and stories, restricted accounts, and banned live broadcasts for a number of Palestinian journalists and activists, in conjunction with the intensity of publishing the Israeli occupation’s assault on Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque and the aggression on Gaza.
UN: Israel killed 4 Palestinians, injured 1,090 in last 20 days
Israeli occupation forces have killed four Palestinians, including two children, and wounded 1,090 others, including 141 children, during the previous 20 days, a United Nations (UN) report revealed on Saturday. In the report, which covered the period between 8 and 28 July, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) stated that the Palestinians were killed and wounded in the occupied West Bank. According to UNOCHA’s report, since the start of this year, Israeli occupation forces have killed 50 Palestinians, including 11 children, in the occupied West Bank. During the same period, at least 11,232 other Palestinians have been wounded in the occupied West Bank, including 584 children.
Israel court calls on Sheikh Jarrah residents to pay rent to settlers
Israel’s Supreme Court today offered Palestinian residents of the occupied Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood ‘protected residence’ status, saying that if they pay rent to the settler organisation which claims the land on which their homes are built, their properties will not be demolished. The families have rejected the proposition, objecting to Nahalat Shimon’s claims of ownership and subsequent plans for their forcible eviction. The hearing took place before a panel of three judges who were ruling on a leave to appeal request submitted by families who are facing eviction from their homes in Sheikh Jarrah by the Nahalat Shimon settler company.
Both sides subsequently presented arguments, and the hearing concluded without the handing down of a court ruling. The justices are expected to issue a decision within the coming days concerning the continuation of proceedings. According to one of the attorneys representing the families, an additional hearing on the matter will likely be scheduled. Originally slated for early May, the hearing was deferred until now to allow for the Attorney General to weigh his intervention in the case, which he ultimately declined. The court’s decision, in this case, will likely impact the additional families from the Kerem Al-Jaouni section of Sheikh Jarrah facing eviction lawsuits filed by Nahalat Shimon, including the case of the Dajani, Daoudi, and Hammad families, likewise pending at the Supreme Court.
The media yawns at the Israeli Army’s death squads – Gideon Levy
Israeli terror is at it again. The Israel Defense Forces’ death squads chalked up another successful week: four bodies of innocent Palestinians piled up between the two Fridays. There doesn’t seem to be a connection between the four incidents in which four sons were killed, but the link cannot be broken. In all these cases, soldiers chose shooting to kill as the preferred option. In all four cases another way could have been chosen: Arrest them, aim for the legs, don’t do anything or simply don’t be there at all. But the soldiers chose to kill. It’s probably easier for them that way.
They come from different branches of the army with different backgrounds, but they share the incredible ease with which they kill, whether they have to or not.
Why not kill a Palestinian when possible?
