UN official calls for sanctions against Israel, pens scathing report

Michael Lynk, a special rapporteur charged with investigating human rights in ‘occupied’ territories, lashed out at Israel for its conduct, later calling for sanctions and ‘appropriate diplomatic and legal strategies.’ Lynk described the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement as “a non-violent movement” which operates within the confines of free speech against all states or companies that it believes harms others. “Israel’s role as occupier in the Palestinian Territory—the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and Gaza—has crossed a red line into illegality,” Lynk said at the press conference. He urged the international community to push forward with boycotts and ostracize the country.
